Grace Prayer

By God's grace, I share and take good care of my work, time and resources

Becoming Fully Present

Pray the follwing prayer - Slowly - Thoughtfully

A Prayer of Abundance

We know we are cared for by an abundant Provider. Let us choose to be grateful and trusting.
We know that we have enough and that what we need will always be provided.
Let us choose to be content and generous.
We know that our choices matter for ourselves, for others and future generations
Help us to live consciously and creatively, celebrating the signs of your New Creation that is present and coming.
Creator, who made us to seek the greater good of your kingdom,
Guide us to spend our time, talents and resources on what matters most.
Teach us to be free,
to live without worry, fear or greed in the freedom of your abundance.
Give us our daily bread, as we share ours with the hungry.
We give thanks for the precious gift of life!

Input (Bible, quotes, stories)

Read:  Luke 16:1-13

He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was wasting his possessions. And he called him and said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the account of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’ And the manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive me into their houses.’ So, summoning his master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’ The master commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For the sons of this world[c] are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light. And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth,so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.

“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.  If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

I continually find it necessary to guard against that natural love of wealth and grandeur which prompts us always, when we come to apply our general doctrine to our own case, to claim an exception.” —William Wilberforce

“Money exerts a certain control over us because it seems to hold out so much (false) promise of happiness. It whispers with great force, “Think and act so as to get into a position to enjoy my benefits.” This may include stealing, borrowing, or working. Money promises happiness, and we serve it by believing the promise and walking by that faith.”  – John Piper

“The early church was strikingly different from the culture around it in this way – the pagan society was stingy with its money and promiscuous with its body. A pagan gave nobody their money and practically gave everybody their body. And the Christians came along and gave practically nobody their body and they gave practically everybody their money.” – Tim Keller

“Sixteen of the thirty-eight parables of Jesus deal with money. One out of ten verses in the New Testament deals with that subject. Scripture offers about five hundred verses on prayer, fewer than five hundred on faith, and over two thousand on money. The believer’s attitude toward money and possessions is determinative.”  – John MacArthur

Reflection Questions

Is it still true that one cannot serve 2 Masters: God and Money? What is the difference between someone who serves God above money, and someone who serve Money slightly above God? Where does money play a Master in your life at times? E.g. worry, greed, shopping, thoughts, etc.

Training Exercise

Share your budget this week with someone who is wise with money and wise In God. Where can you be a better steward?

Blessing for the week

May you be honest with God and yourself about the role that Money plays in your life. May you not be mastered by Money, but may you discover wise ways to always have enough and live in greater freedom. Amen
